Blokhus’ history

The city has previously been known as a fishing village, but in recent years it has undergone a great development. Since the middle of the 19th century, Blokhus has been a tourist attraction, where Danish summer guests flock to experience the fresh North Sea air.

Today, the city is still a sought after holiday destination in all seasons. Blokhus has changed from a known shooting and trading place to being North Jutland’s well-known holiday destination with a preserved authentic charm.

Blokhus Beach

Blokhus beach is Northern Europe’s best sandy beach, which is only 450 meters from Strandhotellet Blokhus. The wide beach stretches for several kilometers, and from Blokhus you can drive by car on the bright beach all the way to both Løkken in the north and Rødhus in the south. You can feel an inner peace with the beach’s high dunes and the open sea as far as the eye can see.

The beach’s blue flag is your guarantee of cleanliness and safety. In the period from 1. of May to 30. of September there are classic white bathing houses. The bathhouses have their unique history right back to the 19th century. The red sea mark is on the beach all year round and expresses the past in the fishing village of Blokhus.

Attractions and sights

All year round, Blokhus Sculpture Park is open. Here, creativity has been given free play with sculptures in various materials, such as sand, iron and metal. Blokhus Sculpture Park is only 1.7 km from Strandhotellet.

During the summer season you can experience the great attraction, Fårup Sommerland, which has been votes at the best summer adventure park in the Nordic region up to several times. The adventure park has attractions that fits both young children and adults. Fårup Sommerland is just 5.6 km from Strandhotellet Blokhus.

In the summer there is free concerts at the big square in Blothus – just opposite to the hotel. In the summer of 2018 big popular Danish artists played at the music event.

The Museum of Paper Art is one of several time slots, just 2 km from Blokhus. Here you also find Anne Just’s Garden and the specialty shop, Blokhus Candle-shop.
In the Museum of Paper Art you can experience fantastic exhibitions with huge clippings, and try your hand at e.g. trinkets, origami or paper silhouettes. Have you ever eaten a piece of paper? At the Museum of Paper Art you can decorate and eat your very own artwork. Bon appetite.
